Shannon Britt, a senior Communication Arts major and Human Resources Management and Management minors, participated in the Center for E+I’s Fellows Program twice during her time at Grove City College. First, in the pilot Fellows Program in her freshman year—and now as a senior, in the current, more developed E+I Fellows Program.
Freshman Year
Britt initially got involved in the pilot E+I Fellows Program as a freshman, when her friend encouraged her to apply to Resense—a company that creates products for people living with dementia. Resense was founded by a Grove City College graduate, Luke Gilligan ’24. The friend who urged Britt to apply was already working for Resense, enjoyed it, and thought that she would be a great fit.
During her time at Resense, Britt had a great experience as she worked for a year and a half as a Customer Service Representative and eventually was promoted to the editor of The Resense Register. Her duties included gathering feedback and collaborating with the team to improve product quality.
Britt also wrote for the Resense Register, a dementia-friendly newspaper. After her promotion to Editor, Britt managed the editorial process and used Adobe InDesign to design and format the publication for improved readability and visual appeal. Britt described her time at Resense as a “formative experience.” She also said, “I loved the team I worked with and felt strongly about the products we were creating and the people we were serving… As a freshman, I was initially nervous about working with upperclassmen, but over time I saw my confidence and comfort level grow significantly.”
Britt loved her experience at Resense. At the end of the school year when Gilligan graduated, the six-week cohort ended.
In January 2026, during Britt’s senior year, E+I Community Manager, Emma O’Toole ’23, reached out and encouraged her to once again apply to the E+I Fellows Program.
Senior Year
Britt is currently interning with Dr. Hoffman at Keystone Veterinary Care, where she serves as a Human Resources Intern. She is building the Human Resource Department from the ground up, which she describes as, “a lot of work, but meaningful.” For example, she is creating standardized job descriptions and hiring templates for key clinic roles, conducting compensation and benefits research, and providing pay recommendations. She is also creating a comprehensive employee handbook that covers policies and procedures alongside an HR structure by organizing records and creating onboarding and performance management tools.
Keystone Veterinary Clinic is set to open in June 2026 and Dr. Hoffman will be hiring the first company employees this summer. Keystone Veterinary Care will be Dr. Hoffman’s livelihood, and Britt said, “I get to help her with that, I feel like I’m really contributing.”
How has the E+I Fellows Program Grown Since the Pilot Run?
Reflecting upon her experience in both the pilot run and current Fellows Program, Britt said, “The most significant change I have observed is the clarity of communication. In my current role at Keystone, I know what is expected of me each week. The program has become much more structured and organized, which has reduced stress and allowed me to focus more fully on producing quality work. Clear expectations have made a noticeable difference in my overall experience.”
Britt’s Favorite Lessons from the E+I Fellows Program
When asked what her most significant experience she gained from the Fellows Program, Britt said, “The greatest takeaway from this experience is the hands-on, real-world application it provides. It serves as excellent preparation for post-graduate work because you are working with real companies that expect high-quality, professional results. Although you are not being graded, there is a strong internal motivation to produce your best work, knowing it has a real impact. I would highly recommend the E+I Fellows program to students who are committed to taking the internship seriously and are genuinely willing to grow both personally and professionally.”
