A few times each semester there will be an opportunity for students to meet with professionals for our Industry Office Hours and our VC Office Hours. This semester we have two Venture Capital firms and a digital marketing firm for our Industry Office Hours. For Spring 2019, E+I is hosting VC firms 1517 Fund and Ben Franklin Technology Partners and digital marketing firm WebFX for office hours. Industry Office Hours

Each semester you will have the opportunity to sit down with professionals various different industries. These are great opportunities to connect with specialists in marketing, sales, finance, start-ups and more. This semester you have the opportunity to connect with WebFX, a leader in digital marketing.

This semester E+I is hosting WebFX as our industry office hours opportunity. WebFX is a full-service Internet marketing and SEO company offering innovative web marketing solutions to mid to large size companies across the globe. As a leader in SEO, web design, e-commerce, website conversion, and Internet marketing services, our firm prides ourselves on driving traffic, converting visitors, and measuring effectiveness to ultimately deliver real results for our clients.

A transplant to Harrisburg, PA from the even snowier Northern Tier region of PA where she attended college at Mansfield University. At WebFX she specializes in college communications, internal culture building, and facilitating team Settlers of Catan game nights.

VC Office Hours

Each semester you will have the opportunity to sit down with professionals in Venture Capital. These are great opportunities to practice your pitch and get advice, and learn more about how to raise funds, and build a connection with a VC firm – incredibly valuable if you will need funding for your startup down the line.

Brian Slawin is the Northwest Regional Director and Portfolio Manager for the Ben Franklin Technology PArtners / Central & Northern Pennsylvania. In his role, Brian identifies, collaboratively mentors and works with the Ben Franklin team to invest in small manufacturing and technology companies who seek to grow and commercialize their ideas and products. In the almost 3 years since he moved to northwest PA, (after exiting his St. Louis-based technology company) BFTP has invested nearly $10MM in 59 companies throughout Central and Northern PA. 

The 1517 Fund

Office Hours | April 17 from 11:30-3PM

1517 Fund is a venture capital fund making investments in technology startups led by young founders. Spun out of the Thiel Fellowship, 1517 specializes in investing in young talent at the earliest stages of the entrepreneurial journey. 1 in 27 founders who work with our team builds a billion-dollar company (e.g., Vitalik Buterin and Ethereum, Austin Russell and Luminar).

We provide mentorship, support, and cash grants to founders before they raise venture capital funding. We invest in angel, pre-seed, and seed-stage rounds when founders do raise venture capital funding. While based in the San Francisco Bay Area, we make investments across the United States and Canada.

1517 does office hours on campuses and at organizations across the United States and Canada. Come pitch your idea to a Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm that’s seen thousands of pitches. Get feedback and learn what to do next if you plan on pitching investors. 

If you plan on raising venture capital funding down the line, Office Hours is a good place to introduce yourself to us, as we like to get to know teams before we invest.

He was previously  an early team member at Praxis and a moral psychology researcher at the University of Pennsylvania.
